Ring-a-ding-ding

Even those of you who do not invest in fine metals may have noticed in the news lately that the cost of gold is steadily rising. This prompted us to shop for rings a bit sooner than we otherwise may have. Thankfully neither of us wanted anything fancy, so the search did not take very long, although we did manage to confuse the salespeople at Greenberg's by wanting completely different bands (different styles, different colors of gold, different widths, sizes, etc). Also, apparently jewelry stores (at least those at the Coral Ridge mall) do not carry 18K gold or even have the prices readily available, so that was fun. But now everything is special ordered and we just have to figure out whether or not we want anything engraved on the inside.
Suggestions?

Tuxedos

So the time came, and went, for the picking of the tuxedos.

And so, finally, they were chosen. But they did not look like the Zoot suit to the right. They looked classy. But a funny thing occurred. When the fancy button idea was attempted, it turns out that it made Mike look like Tom Cruise. Especially when he put on the Ray Bans and started calling everyone "Ice...man." His ego was writing checks that his body definitely could not cash. So the fancy button went the way of the Dodo. It was replaced by a four-in-hand.

The final ensemble looks a little more like this:

Only the lapels were better looking. But the jacket is a two-button affair with a notched lapel. It has tiny pin-stripes which are only visible within one foot of the jacket. And the vests won't have the ridiculous pattern, just a diagonal series of stripes. And FOR THE LOVE OF PETE IT WON'T BE SHINY. (The Bride-Who-
Doesn't-Care did have an opinion on that.) The Groom-who-cares-too-much will be wearing a white vest and tie, while the Groomsmen-who-ought-to-
care-if-they-know-what's-good-for-them will be decked in a black vest and tie. And there will be pants and shoes for all. Everyone except the Best-Man-who-
sweats-too-much will get shirts, as well. And Johnnie Utah will get to wear his monocle. Not that it represents any sort of change.

Registration Complete

On Friday, Karen and I completed our registration by going to Younkers. As you can see from my previous post, this means we are registered at Younkers, Carson Pirie Scott, Herberger's, Bon Ton, Boston Stores, Bergner's, and Elder-Beerman. If I can convince her, we may yet register at Menards.

Links:
BTW, right now I am listening to Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaugh Williams. I highly recommend it. And the radio stations of MPR, which I am currently listening to.

Rumor has it that there will be a wedding-oriented event in Iowa City on June 8. What I am told is that there is no mention of the word "shower" in it at all. And it is supposed to be "man-friendly." Whatever that means.

And now MPR is playing the Suite No. 1 in E flat for Military Band by Gustav Holst! What a day! What's next--Procession of the Sardar?

Registration

So we spent the afternoon yesterday registering, and we are now registered at two of the three stores that we want to register at: Bed Bath & Beyond and Target. We also plan to register at Younkers, a part of the Bon Ton chain of stores (which also includes Herberger's and Carson Pirie Scott).

Younkers

Herberger's

You'll notice that the pages for Herberger's and Younkers are the same, but with a different store name. The same is true of Carson Pirie Scott and Bon Ton. I'll post again when we have registered there. In the meantime, check out the registry at B3 and Target. When I find a way to register at Dayton's, I'll consider that as well...

Mike & Karen Are Still Getting Married!

So it's been awhile since there has been a post. Sorry. My bad. You've been accosted by MST3K for two months, and you're tired of them. You're sick of them. You want to tear them off the screen and hurl Tom Servo through the nearest drive-in window. Drive-thru window. Whatever.

So, yes, Karen and I are still getting married. We've even devised Save-the-Date cards which we have neglected to address. That was funny when the post officer came to the door wondering where to send the cards! Ha, we said. How funny!

We spent the last two months in luxurious fashion: travelled to Sacramento, then Stanfo (rd), then San Francisco, then Sacramento, then Monte Rio, then Sacramento, then Fresno, then Sacramento again. And after traveling all over Sacramento, we flew home. To frigid weather. After a blizzard. Then we waited for the snow to melt.

We were going to update the blog at that point, but it snowed again, and we had to shovel. Then we drove to the Twin Cities and visited my sister and brother-in-law, Nick. Then they came south for Easter, and I had to work a bunch of weekends to make up for the time off.

So now it's April, or May, or something, and the blog is not up to date. Sorry.

Actually, I guess it is now. Sorry.
